One Day (Far Side of Our Sorrow)

by Folk Hymnal

/

about

In the last year and half, all of us have experienced a tremendous amount of loss and grief. Where do you run to in the midst of this pain? What gives you hope, if anything? I have wrestled with these questions. This process has strengthened my commitment to the hope of the gospel. The Christian faith is an honest faith. We are taught in the Psalms to lament and name our pain. We even have a Savior who felt pain and grief—enough to weep at a funeral (John 11:35). Even more encouraging is the fact that our God is tender enough to hear our cries and listen to our angry questions. And, ultimately, He's gracious enough to provide relief (if not on this side of heaven, certainly on the other side). So, in the face of death and suffering, we grieve but not without hope (1 Thess. 4:13).

If you're mourning, if you're lamenting, if you're asking hard questions of God—I hope you find some encouragement in this song.

lyrics

Today we hurt
But one day we won’t
So sit and feel the ache today
And grieve but not without hope

Today we weep
But one day we won’t
So wail and cry those tears today
And grieve but not without hope

Hallelujah, there’s a far side of our sorrow
Hallelujah, there’s a hope beyond the grave

Today we mourn
But one day we won’t
So stand and sing the songs today
And grieve but not without hope

Hallelujah, there’s a far side of our sorrow
Hallelujah, there’s a hope beyond the grave
Hallelujah, there’s a far side of our sorrow
Hallelujah, it will all make sense one day

Today we hurt
But one day we won’t
So sit and feel the ache today
And grieve but not without hope
